    He was an American chess grandmaster and the 11th World Chess Champion. He started playing chess when he was only about 6 years old in 1949. His parents got divorced when he was only 2,making his mother a single parent and having raise him and his sister on his own. He just had one sister,Joan Targ,who passed away in 1998 at 60 from a hemorrhagic stroke. He was with a woman named Miyoki Watai for about 30 years or so beforing marring her in 2004 and until his passing in 2008.
