Robert Joseph Demint was born on August 10, 1919 in Shreveport, Caddo Parish County, LA to Agnes Ann (Sullivan) Demint and Stephen Wallace Demint, and had a brother Earl Stephen Demint. He married Agnes Marie (Clay) Demint in 1939, and died at age 84 years old on October 20, 2003 in San Antonio, Socorro Co County, NM. Robert Demint was buried in October 2003 Cremated, ashes scattered at Talimena National Scenic Byway.

In 1925, Robert was merely 6 years old when in July, the Scopes Trial - often called the Scopes Monkey Trial - took place, prosecuting a substitute teacher for teaching evolution in school. Tennessee had enacted a law that said it was "unlawful to teach human evolution in any state-funded school". William Jennings Bryan headed the prosecution and Clarence Darrow headed the defense. The teacher was found guilty and fined $100. An appeal to the Supreme Court of Tennessee upheld the law but overturned the guilty verdict.
