Robert Joseph Mastel Obituary
Robert Joseph Mastel, 76, of Yakima, WA, surrounded by his loving family, died in his home Sunday, May 1, 2005 from a brain tumor.
He was born May 2, 1928 in Bismarck, ND to Joseph and Anna (Schneider) Mastel. He worked as an auto body repairman and painter. He moved to Yakima, WA in 1945, met Shirley Jean Swofford and they married March 3, 1948. In 1950, Bob started his own auto body shop, Autocraft Paint & Body Works on Cornell. Five years later he built a new building on Third Avenue to house his growing business. Bob also enjoyed the restoration of old cars and was currently working on a 36 Ford Coupe before his illness.
Bob loved his family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the four legged kind of grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting and taking several excursions to Alaska and Canada. Bob officially retired in 1994 and purchased a winter home in Yuma, AZ. Shirley and Bob lived six months each year in Yuma, enjoying the company of friends. No matter where he was, Bob enjoyed watching plants grow, from his cactus, palms, lemons and dates in Arizona to his tomatoes, apples, apricots and walnuts in Yakima. He loved to read and work jigsaw puzzles. The family has many fond memories of their dad. He will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife Shirley Mastel of Yakima, WA, and four children, Robert Michael (Mike) Mastel and fianc/e Jimmie West of Yakima, Barbara Jo Thomas of Toppenish, WA, Tami Jean and husband Mike Wilson of Yakima, WA and Traci and husband Michael Ausborn of Camas, WA; seven grandchildren, Chelsea Mastel, Tiffany Moritz, Lana Bennett, Angela Waters, Tyler Thomas, Devlin "D.J." Ziegler and Justin Ausborn; eight great-grandchildren, and brothers and sisters, Marianne Wenzel and Eugene and wife Julie Mastel, all of Bismarck, ND ,Bernice and husband Ray Rolsholven of Mandan, ND and James and wife Michelle Mastel of Anadarko, OK and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Anna Mastel.
Viewing will be Wednesday and Thursday, 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home.
Vigil services will be Thursday, May 5, 2005 at 6:00 p.m. at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 6, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
