He married Juanita Sophia (Gehrke) Tousignant on July 13, 1951 in Council Grove, Morris Co County, KS, and had children Barbara Colleen Tousignant and Susan Kathleen (Tousignant) Mueller. Robert Tousignant died at age 73 years old on October 24, 2002 in Herington, Dickinson Co County, KS, and was buried on October 28, 2002 at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Herington.

Early in his presidency, the October stock market crash - "Black Tuesday" - occurred, which lead to the Great Depression. None of his economic policies were able to make a dent in the Depression. This lead to one term and the election of Democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt winning the 1933 election in a landslide.
