    Longtime Newberry resident, Robert N. Rovenko, 68, entered eternal life Wednesday afternoon March 16, 2011 at Marquette General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born April 16, 1942 in Hamtramck, son of the late Fred & Agnes (Orluck) Rovenko, Robert was a 1960 graduate of Detroit Cooley High School. He was briefly employed with Detroit Edison and, in 1962, enlisted in the United States Army during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge in 1964. Robert was a graduate of the Michigan State Police Academy in Lansing and started his career in law enforcement. During his lifetime, he was stationed in Ypsilanti, Mt. Pleasant and Newberry where he was promoted to Sergeant. He then transferred to the Michigan State Police Post in Erie and later returned the Newberry, retiring in 1992. Robert was a member of the B.P.O.E. #1705 and attended Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, both of Newberry. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, travelling, photography, reading, carpentry and spending time with his family and grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Robert is preceded in death by his sister Eleanore Smith. Survivors include his loving wife, the former Margaret "Marge" Anderson, whom he married October 15, 1966 in Detroit; children Keith (Charlotte) of Wolverine, Kevin (Pamela) of Manchester and Kenneth (Towanna) of Canal-Winchester, OH; grandchildren Trenton and Matthew Trugillo, Sophia and Nikolai Rovenko, Zachary, Joshua, Isaac and Nicholas Rovenko; sister-in-law Carolyn (Richard) Sheppard of Rapid City. Friends may call at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church on Monday March 21, 2011 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. A memorial service celebrating the life of Robert N. Rovenko will follow at 11:00 am at the church with Pastor Nancy Barkat officiating. Condolences may be expressed at www.beaulieufuneralhome.com. Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry is assisting the family.
