Robert Richard Gabardi was born to Joseph Giuseppe Fernando Gabardi (1889 - 1977) and Eva Franzoi (1896 - 1965). His father was born in Italy and his mother was born in Wyoming. His maternal grandmother was also born in Italy. Robert had half-siblings Eugene Kempfenkel (born 1917), Lillian "Lillie" Kempfenkel (1916 - 1993), Albert H. Kempfenkel (1920 - 1937) and Edmond "Eddie" DeGuelle III (1926 - 2019). A United States Army veteran, Robert served during the Korean Conflict. Robert Gabardi married Wanda Lee Holt (1943 - 2019) on June 29, 1958, in San Miguel County, Colorado, and they had four children, a daughter and three sons.

Robert was Caucasian, of Italian heritage on his paternal side (his father was born in Italy) and on his maternal grandmother's side.

A native of Rupert, Idaho, Robert was raised in Colorado and was a lifelong resident of Colorado, where he died, in Norwood.

Robert's funeral was held at the Bethel Chapel in Norwood, Colorado. He was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Norwood.

A veteran of the United States Army, Robert served during the Korean Conflict.

A rancher, Robert also worked as a miner. He was employed by the Colorado Division of Wildlife when he died.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. Robert married Wanda Holt and they had three sons, Joe, Lee, and Shane, and a daughter, Kerry. When he died, he had six grandchildren.
