Introduction

Bob retired as Lt.Colonel, US Army and passed away at Fort Meade Army Hospital In Maryland. His wife, Armida Ojeda Meltz Is also deceased. He served in WW2 with the 24th Infantry Division in Korea from June 1950 to the end of the war. I am his only nephew now in my early eighties. Note he became an Amateur Ornothologist and ironically died of parrot fever.He owned two parrots named Huntley and Brinkley.

In 1920, in the year that Robert W Meltz was born, on January 1, over 6000 people were arrested and put in prison because they were suspected of being communists. . Many had to be released in a few weeks and only 3 guns were found in their homes. The U.S. Department of Justice "red hunt" netted thousands of "radicals" and suspected "communists" and aliens were deported. But the "hunt" ended after Attorney General Palmer forecast a massive radical uprising on May Day and the day passed without incident.
