    Robert had not attended many church services over the early years however he became a member of the Baptist Church in his later years and was baptized and became a regular at church service. His church took him into their hearts and I think he found comfort from the church and his new friends as he drew closer to the end of his life.

    Robert spent 23 years in the United States Navy. He was credited with service in WWII, Korea and Vietnam between the years 1947 and 1970. He flew in jets launched from the deck of various carriers. He indicated that during the Cuban Missal Crisis The pilots were required to be at the ready while sitting in a jet equipped with bombs and ready for launch at a moments notice.

In 1928, in the year that Robert Walter Bracey was born, Mickie Mouse was born! He first appeared in Disney's Steamboat Willie, along with Minnie. Although they were in two previous shorts, this was the first to be distributed. Steamboat Willie took advantage of the new technology and was a "talkie" - music was coordinated with the animation. It became the most popular cartoon of its day.

In 1937, by the time he was just 9 years old, on May 6th, the German zeppelin the Hindenburg caught fire and blew up. The Hindenburg was a passenger ship traveling to Frankfurt Germany. It tried to dock in New Jersey, one of the stops, and something went wrong - it blew up. Thirty-six people were killed out of the 97 on board - 13 passengers, 22 crewmen, and one ground worker. The reasons for the explosion are still disputed.
