He married Mary Ann O'Grady ( Beattie, and they had children Lillian Mary O'Grady, James Dwyer O'Grady, Catherine"Cassie"Beattie O'Grady, and Rudolph Patrick O'Grady. Roderick's partner was Bridget O'Grady ( Boyle, and they had children Patrick John O'Grady and Mary "Minnie" Taylor ( O'Grady. Roderick O'grady died at age 57 years old on August 12, 1895 in Ballarat, Ballarat City County, VIC Australia.

  • Introduction

    Table Talk, Melbourne, October 1895. Rody O'Grady, of Macarthur street, Ballarat, senior constable of police, by his will dated June 14, 1895, and presented for probate by Messrs. Wanliss and Craig, of Ballarat, solicitors, appointed his wife, Mary O'Grady, executrix, and his Son, Patrick John O'Grady, executor. Testator directed £20 to be invested for the benefit of his granddaughter, Eileen Mary O'Grady, at the age of 21 years, and bequeathed the residue to his wife during her life or widowhood. Upon her death or remarriage, testator bequeathed the estate to his three children, Lilian Mary O'Grady, James Dwyer O'Grady and Catherine O'Grady, equally, whom he instructed to provide a home and maintenance for his son, Rudolph Patrick O'Grady. Testator died August 12th, 1895 and the estate is sworn at £500 real and £197 personal, total, £697. The Ballarat Star, July 1921. 50 YEARS AGO. Ballarat's Early History. ..June 1871...The following are the rewards paid for the police reward fund during the week :- To Constables Denis Coffee and Rody O'Grady of Ballarat West, £1 each in acknowledgement for their services in stopping a runaway horse.

    The Ballarat Star, 13 August 1895. DEATH OF SENIOR CONSTABLE O'GRADY. Many in Ballarat and elsewhere will regret to hear of the death of Mr. R. O'Grady, senior constable in charge of the North Ballarat sub district, which occured at the station house, where he resided at 6 o'clock yesterday morning........He was 58 years of age and leaves a widow and family of seven, of which Mr. P. J. O'Grady, the well known elocutionist of this city, is a member. Mr. O'Grady, who was a native of Queen's County, Ireland, came to Victoria in 1864. He belonged to the Irish constabulary, and as soon as he settled here joined the force in Melbourne. He came to Ballarat about 28 years ago, and for some time did duty as driver of the gold escort.
