Rodney Stephen Schachle Jr was born on June 11, 1954 in Hanover, York County, Pennsylvania United States to Stephan A Schachle and Viola Mae Elizabeth (Shelton) Schachle, and had a brother Leo Schachle. He was in a relationship with Patricia Ann Schachle, and they were together until Rodney's death on August 11, 1984. He had a child George Edward Schachle. Rodney Schachle was buried at Great Conewago Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Gettysburg.

    RODNEY S SCHACHLE Graveside services for Rodney "Steve" Schachle, 30, of Fairfiled, who died Saturday morning, August 11, 1984, will be Wenesday at 11 a.m. at the Great Conewago Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The Reverend Michael A. Allwein will officiate. There will be no viewing. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg. -The Evening Sun (Hanover, Pennsylvania) Tuesday, August 14, 1984

In 1960, when he was just 6 years old, on May 1st, an American CIA U-2 spy plane, piloted by Francis Gary Powers, was shot down by a surface-to-air missile over the Soviet Union. Powers ejected and survived but was captured. The U.S. claimed that the U-2 was a "weather plane" but Powers was convicted in the Soviet Union of espionage. He was released in 1962 after 1 year, 9 months and 10 days in prison.
