Ronald Stone was born in Marlow Buckinghamshire to George And Rose Stone. As a child he learned to play the violin and piano by the age of four along with his older sister Georgina.
As a teenager he attended Sir William Borlase Grammar School and by the age of 14 was the head of the school cricket team. He also helped out with teaching in the year before he left.
He joined the RAF I believe when he became 18 years old. He trained in Miami and went on to fly in a Lancaster bomber crew stationed at Kinross Scotland.
We are not completely sure of the details but we believe he was shot down over Scotland on the way back from an air raid, which culminated in the plane crashing into a lake or river because we believe they hit a bridge. I can't find out any more details. But we do know that after the crash he escaped, and swam to the shore, only to go back to help his other crew mates. Sadly he died attempting to help them.
We never really knew the true story as my gran, his mother, didn't want to know as she was too devastated at the time. All my elder relatives have gone now, so any more info would be appreciated.
