Roxie R Ripoli's History: 1909 - 2002

Uncover new discoveries and connections today by sharing about people & moments from yesterday.
  • Introduction

Roxie was my father Nick Giambattista's first cousin. She and I became very close and I asked her to be my Confirmation Sponsor, which made her very happy. Her gift to me was a beautiful silver and marcasite heart pendant which I still cherish. We would go on excursions together, which we both enjoyed very much. After my mother became and invalid, Roxie would visit and sit with her when the family had an event to attend. I will always remember and love our Roxie.

In 1926, at the age of 17 years old, Roxie was alive when on October 31st, Harry Houdini died in Michigan. Houdini was the most famed magician of his time and perhaps of all time, especially for his acts involving escapes - from handcuffs, straitjackets, chains, ropes slung from skyscrapers, and more. He was president of the Society of American Magicians and stringently upheld professional ethics. He died of complications from a ruptured appendix. Although he had received a blow to the area a couple of days previously, the connection between the blow and his appendicitis is disputed.
