    Royal "Roy" Bungay was born on April 27, 1873 in Clayton, Iowa to parents Charles Henry Bungay (1846-1941) and Alice F. Field (1954-1930). He had siblings including Clair, Blanch, Charles Henry, Madge, Louise, Willard, Julia, and Alice Bungay. In 1897 Roy married Mary Ellen Rees (1876–1951). The couple then moved to Spokane, Washington and together they had children Rees L Bungay (1899-), Rus Bungay (1900-), Vaughn Bungay (1902-1954), Clarence Roy Bungay (1905-1941), and Ellen Louise Bungay (1906-1982). He worked as a bookkeeper in Spokane and later got into real estate.

After marrying Charles in 1871, they raised their family in Cass, Clayton, Iowa, United States. She later moved to Spokane City, Spokane, Washington in the 1900's and passed away there in 1930.
