    Roy John Gresli was born to John Pedersen Greslie (1868 - 1940) and Ragnhild Berntsdtr Hilm (1874 - 1963). Both of his parents were born in Norway. He had nine siblings: Anna Marie, Bernard, Benjamin, Ray, Alfred, Albert, William, Lester, and Margaret. A full term baby, he was the third child born to his parents. When Roy was born, his father was 38 years old and a shingle mill worker. His mother was 32 years old and a "housewife". Roy Gresli married Mary Margaret Hower (1912 - 2007) on December 12, 1931 and they had two daughters, one of whom was Marilyn Alice Gresli (1933 - 2020). Their other daughter, Linda, was seven years younger than Marilyn. According to his 1940 World War II draft card, Roy was 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighed 170 pounds. He had blue eyes, blonde hair, and a "light" complexion.
