    Royal Mark Broderson, 84, of Elk Point, South Dakota passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 2, 2016, at Unity Point Health - St. Luke’s in Sioux City, Iowa with his family by his side. Royal was born on September 29, 1931, in Marty Mission, South Dakota to Chris and Virgie Broderson. The family moved to Elk Point when Royal was in 5th grade. He was active in sports. He participated in football, basketball, track, cheerleading, and was a state champion pole vaulter. During the summer, he was a life guard at the old swimming hole in Elk Point. After graduating in 1950, he enlisted in United States Navy serving his country until he was honorably discharged on May 3, 1955. Royal was united in marriage to Judith Lilly on November 23, 1957. To this union, they welcomed six children. He worked at Load King Trailer Company in Elk Point for 35 years. He enjoyed outdoor activities and raising his children. Royal was gifted with many talents especially liked working with his hands. Royal was very community minded and participated in many organizations over the years and was a Justice of the Peace. He loved bowling and played in the pool league. After his retirement, he took up cooking and published two cookbooks. Those left to honor his memory are his loving children, Mike Broderson of North Sioux City, SD, Mark (Carol) Broderson of Sundance, WY, Marla Broderson of Elk Point, SD, Matt Broderson of Vermillion, SD, Mitch (Lori) Broderson, of East Peoria, IL, and Marty (Shannon) Broderson, of Warner, SD; seven grandchildren, Erica (Eric) Hoese, Kyle (Megan) Broderson, Kirk Broderson, Drew (Maia) Barbier, Demi Broderson, Gage, and Lillian Broderson; five great-grandchildren, Kayl and Morgan Broderson, Cade, Ryann, and Jace Hoese; his sister, Faye (Dan) Hunt of Granville, IA;, many nieces, and nephews. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judith, his parents, two brothers, Walt and Sandy; and his four sisters, Betty, Patty, Francis, and Toni.
