  • Introduction

Ruby P. Worthy Proby, USASMA Class 26 Nonresident was born Ruby P. Worthy on October 18, 1957, to the proud parents Mr. & Mrs. Charlie J. Worthy and Bettie L. Worthy of Thomaston, Georgia. She received her early childhood education in the Georgia Public School System before graduating from Upson High School, Class of 1975. After graduation, she stepped in the Recruiting Station, signed her name on the line in 1977 and became a Soldier in the United States Army. But her enlistment in the Army, most assuredly, did not come as a surprise to those who knew her. She graduated from Basic Training followed by Advanced Individual Training where she excelled. A natural leader, she quickly rose to the pinnacle of the enlisted corps and everything else she undertook. Her entire career in the Army has been marked with a variety of assignments. She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. She retired in October 2003, after more than twenty-seven years of dedicated service and lifetime of exemplified selfless service to this nation. At the age of 52, God called this Sergeant Major of Color home on December 29, 2009. Like any good soldier, she faithfully carried out those orders and precisely on time - as was her habit - she proceeded to her final port of embarkation and peacefully boarded her transport to her final duty station. She was buried at the Pine Chapel Cemetery in Thomaston, Georgia with full military honors. Her loss left an enormous void in our ranks that never will be filled or understood. Through the sorrow the NCO Corps is eternally grateful and proud to have you in our ranks every step of the way through every achievement, every disappointment, every celebration, and every loss. Your dedication and mentorship lives on as we continue to serve our nation in your name, love and cherish our life and each other and the causes we believe in. Be thou at Peace.
