Ruby Pearl (Herbert) of Smeaton Australia was born in 1898 in Smeaton, Hepburn Shire County, VIC to Marian Muir Herbert and Albert Henry Herbert. She had siblings Mark Harold Clarence Herbert, William Edward Herbert, Percival Herbert, Albert Henry Herbert, and Ernest Carling Herbert. She married Edward Pellett in 1919, and had a child Edith Jean Pellett. Ruby died at age 23 years old in 1921 in Carlton, City of Melbourne County.

In 1898, in the year that Ruby Pearl Herbert was born, on March 24th, Robert Allison of Pennsylvania became the first person to buy an American-built car. He bought a Winton, which he had seen in an advertisement in Scientific American. The Winton, built in Ohio, was made by hand and came with a leather roof, padded seats, gas lamps, and tires made by B.F. Goodrich.

TR, as he was known, had been Vice-President for 6 months when President William McKinley was assassinated. He was a popular progressive and was elected to a second term in 1904 as a Republican, winning 56.4% of the popular vote and 336 electoral votes.
