Russel Edward Brand was born to Barbara Elizabeth Brand and English photographer Ronald Henry Brand. in Orsett Hospital in Grays, Essex, England. He was raised by his mother since his mother and father separated when he was six months old. But when Russell was 8 years old, his mother had uterine cancer, followed by breast cancer a year later. As a result of his mother's illnesses, Russell lived with relatives. Russell is quoted as saying that he had a "strange relationship" with his father Ronald, who he didn't often see. When Russell was a teenager, he says that his father took him to visit prostitutes in Thailand.
