    Russell graduated from Penn State University with a bachelor of science in 1967.

  • Professional Career

    When he died, Russell owned Le Tub, described as "the Hollywood dive along the intracoastal Waterway known for 'America's best hamburger'". Le Tub was in South Florida. His restaurant had previously been a gas station that he owned during the 1970's, which failed because of the oil crisis. He converted the gas station to a "beach shack restaurant", filling the interior with toilet seats, sinks, and tubs - giving it a "distinct charm". The diner was known for its 13-ounce sirloin burger. Involved in various businesses, Russell made most of his money by flying Coppertone banners over Broward County, Florida beaches and became a real estate "mogul." He owned several businesses: a motorcycle rental shop and a bar in addition to his restaurant.

    Russell Thomas Kohuth was born to Mayberry Karlton Kohuth (1909 - 19998) and Isabelle A. Yerkus (1913 - 1998) on April 19th, 1935 in Altoona, Pennsylvania. He was an only child. Friends say that Russell may have been married briefly when he was young but there are no records of the marriage. When he died, his companion was Nancey Brannan, with whom he owned and operated a bar called Shell Harbor.

In 1935, in the year that Russell Thomas Kohuth was born, on September 8th, Louisiana Senator Huey Long was shot by Dr. Carl Weiss. Weiss was shot and killed immediately by Long's bodyguards - Long died two days later from his injuries. Long had received many death threats previously, as well as threats against his family. He was a powerful and controversial figure in Louisiana politics (and probably gained power through multiple criminal acts). His opponents became frustrated with their attempts to oust him and Dr. Weiss was the son-in-law of one of those opponents. His funeral was attended by 200,000 mourners.
Did you know?
In 1968, at the age of 33 years old, Russell was alive when on June 5th, Sen. Robert F. Kennedy was shot at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles by Sirhan after celebrating his win in the California presidential primary. He died the next day at Good Samaritan Hospital.
