Introduction

Russell was quite and kept to himself. He enjoyed reading books, skin diving, the martial arts, and weapons. As a young boy Russell was a member of the AAU swim teams in both Puerto Rico and Clear Lake City (Suburb of Houston. Texas) along with his two brothers and sister. He was a strong breaststoke swimmer. Russell enlisted in the United States Marine Corps after graduating from Clear Creek High School (League City, Texas).

Russell attended grade school, grades K-5th grade,, in both California and Puerto Rico. Russell also attended junior high school, grades 6th-8th, in Puerto Rico and Webster Junior High School (while living in Clear Lake City). Russell attended Clear Creek High School for grades 9th-12th grades where he graduated.

Russell was raised in the Carholic religion along with his two brothers and sister. Russell received Communion and Confirmation in the Catholic church.
Military Service

Russell joined the United States Marine Corps at age 18 years when he graduated from high school. This was towards the end of the Vietnam War. Russell served the Marine Corps for the full 20 years and then reenlisted for another 8 years before retiring from the military.
