    (Elizabeth) Ruth Thain (nee Barlow) Her children announce with deep sorrow the passing of Ruth on December 31, 2012 at the age of 84, following a wonderful Christmas connecting with family and friends. The daughter of Ward and Lena Barlow, she was predeceased by her devoted husband of 55 years Raeburn Glenn Thain, and survived by her children David of Toronto, Carolyn (Phil Belanger) of Sudbury, and Janet (Rose Gillingham) of Peterborough. Remembered lovingly by Shirley Van Steen (Chris), and granddaughters Alexandra and Kimberley (Robbie Craig) of Pickering. Also predeceased by her sister Phyllis, and brothers Ken, Joffre, Garnet and Wilfred. Survived by Helen Rodgers of Campbellford and Garney Thain (Doris) of Belleville Remembered fondly by her nephews and nieces. Born and raised in North Bay, Ruth started a long career as a bookkeeper, moving to Sudbury to work at Inco, when she met her husband Raeburn (Ray) Thain. She continued to work in the offices of number of local Sudbury companies, where she set high standards of dedication and ethics. Ruth’s extended family included many cousins of several generations and the annual Devolin’s cousin’s party was always anticipated with pleasure. Ruth and Ray travelled with their children when they were young, and with friends later in their life together, enjoying meeting people across the continent. Ruth enjoyed their little “bit of heaven” on the Black River in Queensborough, where they built their cottage and spent many summers. Following Ray’s unexpected passing in 2009, Ruth sold her Melbourne Street home, leaving many good friends and neighbours. Thank you to the Crawford family for all of their kindnesses. Ruth was happiest in the company of family and friends and took great pride in their activities and always celebrated their accomplishments and life events with thoughtful gestures. A considerate and gentle woman, she was always interested in what was important to others and loved to listen, drawing people out in conversation and responding to their needs. Thank you to the wonderful team at the Breezes/Amberwood Suites who welcomed Ruth into their family, and the many good friends she made while living there. Visitation in the Lougheed Funeral Home, 252 Regent St. at Hazel St., Sudbury, Friday January 4th from 2 to 4 with a service to follow at 4:00 pm. Donations to the Salvation Army would be appreciated. Cremation at the Park Lawn Crematorium.
