    My precious grandmother Ruth M. (Mae) Hydle was not 'born' into the Hydle family but rather she married my grandfather Oscar D. Hydle, a full blooded German immigrant and took on his name. She was originally a Sabines of Canadian French descent. they met in Alabama after my grandmother crossed Look Out Mountain on horse and buggy with her family as they were migrating South relocating from Nova Scotia. They married at a very early age when she was 12 and he was 14 years old. They had 9 children before she was 30, each about 2 years apart. My grandmother was a faithful Christian, baptized in Jesus Christ's name and filled with the Holy Ghost, and her soul is resting in Paradise with Jesus even now.

In 1909, in the year that Ruth M Hydle was born, the New York Times published the first movie review. It was a report on D.W. Griffith's movie "Pippa Passes" also called "The Song of Conscience", a silent film. The review said that this work was moving away from "lurid material that attracted the wrath of censors and concerned citizens and toward more respectable ends. The movie was the story of a young female factory worker, on her day off, wandering and singing - thus changing the hearts of those around her towards good.

In 1952, at the age of 43 years old, Ruth was alive when on July 2, Dr. Jonas E. Salk tested the first dead-virus polio vaccine on 43 children. The worst epidemic of polio had broken out that year - in the U.S. there were 58,000 cases reported. Of these, 3,145 people had died and 21,269 were left with mild to disabling paralysis.
