Mom and Dad divorced when I was 9. She remarried when I was 15. Her second husband's name was Melvin Feldman. I didn't use her second married name because I couldn't fit it into the genealogy as my mother and Dad's first wife. Mom was born in Orlando, Florida. Much of her life is unclear to me because there were so many conflicting stories and apparently things she never wanted to talk about. Her marriage to my father was desperately unhappy, but it lasted approximately 19-20 years. I'm unclear about when exactly they got divorced because she left him when I was 9, tried to reconcile with him over and over again for the next year or two, then they lived apart permanently. There were many bitter custody battles over her 3 daughters. Mom did not remarry until after she got custody of me when I was 14-1/2. Her second marriage was somewhat happier than her first because Mr. Feldman was not an alcoholic, but he was just as controlling and in his own way, abusive. He could not quit smoking 4 packs of cigarettes per day, so Mom was not able to quit her 2-pack-a-day habit either. Mom got cancer, and by the time they diagnosed her, it had completely metastasized. They weren't able to determine if it had started in her lungs and spread to her breast, or vice versa. Essentially, smoking killed her. She has no grave; it was always her wish to be cremated. Since she disowned me in 1995, I wasn't there when she was ill or when she passed away. I do not know where her ashes are now. She is survived by me, her two other daughters, a granddaughter Jennifer (Sandy's child) and a grandson (my son Philip).
