Ruthie Laurene Marsh Died: October 19, 2009 Ruthie "Rene" Laurene Marsh, 88, passed away on Monday, October 19, 2009. Visitation: 11:00 A.M. to 1 P.M. Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at White's Azle Funeral Home. She was born October 30, 1920 in Graham to Farris Garrison and Laura Bell Mask. Rene met and married Willard Marsh in Graham, they lived most of their married life in Azle. In recent years, she lived in the Park View Apartments located in Weatherford. Rene became well known in the Senior Center as a very lucky Bingo player. She left behind for her family a collection of her beautiful art work. Rene will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Willard preceded her in death on October 8, 1989. Surviving Rene are her loving children Bryan Marsh of Weatherford, and La Vern Marsh of Austin. She will also be missed by her two long time friends, Kathy Wheeler and Lucille Foust. The three friends have enjoyed sharing their birthdays for many years.

College football was more popular than pro football and rising player salaries were bankrupting league owners. In response, owners created the NFL, using the pro baseball association as a model. Eleven teams were formed: the Akron Pros, Canton Bulldogs, Cleveland Indians, Dayton Triangles, Decatur Staleys, Hammond Pros, Massillon Tigers, Muncie Flyers, Racine Cardinals, Rochester Jeffersons and Rock Island Independents.

In 1937, Ruthie was 17 years old when on May 28th, the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge opened to cars. Taking 5 years to build, the 4,200-foot-long suspension bridge was an engineering marvel of its time - 11 men died during construction. The "international orange" color was chosen because it resisted rust and fading. To the present, it is the symbol of the City that is known throughout the world.
