  • Introduction

I am Tony Goddard Wincanton Royal British Legion (Somerset) I am writing a tribute book to those from Wincanton who were killed in the First World War. Sidney is on our War Memorial. I believe - though I am not totally sure he was born in Horsington Somerset, which is a small village about 3 miles from Wincanton. Could his mother be Ellen Parsons ? he may be grandson of George Parsons & Elizabeth Parsons of Horsington. I don't know why he was in 6th Bn. Leinster Regt. - an Irish Regiment, but he is mentioned in the parish magazine for 1914 as with them then ! I believe his initials are Sydney C - not G

On September 1st, he was acquitted of the charges. Although he was deemed to be guilty of plotting against the U.S., he was not found to be guilty of an "overt act" - which is the Constitutional requirement to be met. Burr's reputation, after the charges and the duel with Alexander Hamilton, was ruined, however.
