He also married Martha Lorene "Lorene" (Ward) Canada, and they had children Debora Kay (Routon) Wilson, Thomas Gene "Tommy" Routon, Russell Barnette Routon, and Sherry Routon. Sam Routon died at age 69 years old on February 12, 2002 in Dallas, Dallas County.
