He married Virginia Raymond Minton, and had children Mavin Manley Minton, John Authar Minton, Helen Minton, Lula Anne Minton, Diana L. Davidson, Bessie M. Davidson, and Sam Joseph Minton. Sam Minton died at age 71 years old on October 24, 1987.
