Samuel Cole Randall of Carlton Australia was born in 1879 in Seymour, Mitchell Shire County, VIC to John Randall and Mary Ann Mcmillan Randall. He had siblings John Randall, Flora Mcmillan Randall, John Cole Randall, and Albert John Randall. He married Charlotte Endersby (Larrad) Randall in 1911, and had children Eleanor (Randall) Crane and Ronald Keith Randall. Samuel Randall died at age 75 years old in 1954 in Yallourn, Latrobe City County.

In 1879, in the year that Samuel Cole Randall was born, on October 22nd, Thomas Edison tested the first practical electric light bulb. Lasting 13½ hours before burning out, it used a "a carbon filament or strip coiled and connected to platina contact wires". He applied for a patent on November 4th, receiving the patent in January 1880.

In 1895, when he was 16 years old, on March 15th, in County Tipperary, Ireland, Michael Cleary killed his wife of 8 years, Bridget, and burned her body. His defense was that his "wife" was a changeling that was left in his real wife's place when she was abducted by fairies. He was nonetheless convicted and imprisoned for manslaughter. He spent 15 years in prison.
