Samuel Hardy had siblings George Foster Hardy, Elizabeth Hardy, Annie Maria Hardy, Emily Louisa (Hardy) Ellis, Alfred Joseph Hardy, Charles Edward Hardy, John Thomas Hardy, and Frederick Walter Hardy. He married Jeannie Ayres in 1907. He also married Jeannie Alfres in 1907. Samuel Hardy died on August 23 in Patumahoe, Auckland New Zealand.

Wells' novel, the show began with simulated "breaking news" of an invasion by Martians.
