Samuel Henry Hendy of Bund Australia was born in 1886 in Bundalong, VIC to Charlotte Amelia Hickford and William Hendy. He had a brother Arthur Charles Hendy. He married Amy Annabel Rudd, and had children William Henry Hendy and Elsie May Hendy. Samuel Hendy died at age 63 years old on August 23, 1950 in Yarrawonga, and was buried in 1950 in Mulwala, NSW.

In 1886, in the year that Samuel Henry Hendy was born, on October 28th, President Grover Cleveland officially dedicated the Statue of Liberty. A gift from France, the base for the statue had been built using donations from the American public.
