He was in a relationship with Marilyn Stiles Knighton beginning October 1988 at Carrollton Alabama in Carrollton, Pickens County, Alabama United States, and had children Samantha Nicole Knighton, Robert Scott Knighton, and Sheyanne Carol Knighton. Samuel Knighton died at age 43 years old on February 2, 2009 in Tupelo, Lee County, Mississippi United States.
