He had siblings Harry John (1918-1981), Joseph (1923-1944), Louise (1925-2015), Franklin (1932-2016), and Benjamin Leonti (1932-1986). He grew up in Cumru, Berks, Pennsylvania, USA. He enlisted on November 3, 1942 in Baltimore Maryland and was a Sgt in the US Army and served in World War II. Samuel married Maryann McCarthy (1927-2022).
