This beautiful woman who I was named after has an ordinary background. She went to school, got married to Samuel Crickard, and had three sons. Sara had a heart of gold, but a short fuse on her temper. If you were to need anything for you or your family and Sara had it in her power, she did it.
I remember my father, her middle son, telling me how one winter a lady down the road was in some financial trouble and couldn't afford coats for her children. Out of the kindness of her heart, she bought them coats for Christmas.
Sara also loved dogs and raised Dobermans. The breed is known for a semi-hostile nature, but as the family soon learned they were loyal to one person and one person only. That person was, obviously, my Grandma Sara. They wouldn't let anyone near her if they thought she felt threatened.
Her nickname was "Sergeant' because of her short temper. As I said, she would do anything for anyone if she had the power, but if you crossed her or angered her in any way shape or form her heart of gold for you would turn black. She would be loud, destructive, with strength fueled by rage.
Once, a neighbor accused Sara of sleeping around with her husband, calling Sara all sorts of terrible names. That past Christmas she had bought Presents for their kids since the husband had gotten let go. Sara, unnerved by this accusation, defended herself. But the neighbor continued to verbally assault her, even within the comforts of her own house. First, Sara politely but firmly asked her to remove herself from her house, but when the neighbor didn't leave, Sara pushed her down the stairs. Broke her arm, she did, and tried to have Sara pay for it but, that never happened.
