Sara Ivaline (Heiple) Diehl, Gossett was born on June 12, 1921 in Somerset, Somerset County, Pennsylvania United States to Carrie Gladys Ogline and John Calvin Heiple, and had siblings Merle W. Heiple, Betty Mae Heiple, Jay Floyd Heiple, Jay E. Heiple, Louise Heiple, Barbara Heiple, and Thelma G. Heiple. She married Marvin Hartwell Gossett. She also married Lynn A. Diehl, and they had children Linda Diehl, C.Sue Diehl, and Marcia Diehl. Sara Diehl, Gossett died at age 83 years old on August 10, 2004 in Johnstown, Cambria County.

Previously a U.S. Senator, Lieutenant Governor, and Ohio State Senator, Harding was a popular President. In 1938, by the time she was 17 years old, on June 25th (a Saturday) the Fair Labor Standards Act was signed into law by President Roosevelt (along with 120 other bills). The Act banned oppressive child labor, set the minimum hourly wage at 25 cents, and established the maximum workweek at 44 hours. It faced a lot of opposition and in fighting for it, Roosevelt said "Do not let any calamity-howling executive with an income of $1,000 a day, ...tell you...that a wage of $11 a week is going to have a disastrous effect on all American industry."
