Opposed by the public, the "public accommodations" sections of the Act were overturned by the Supreme Court eight years later.

In 1880, at the age of merely 5 years old, Sarah was alive when on August 26th, P. T. Barnum and James A. Bailey signed a contract in Bridgeport, CT, creating the Barnum & Bailey Circus. Twenty-seven years later, the Barnum and Bailey would merge with another circus, Ringling Brothers.
