Sarah (Hall) Ridgway 1867 - 1950

Sarah (Hall) Ridgway was born in 1867 to George Hall and Sarah Ann (Fagan) Hall, and had siblings Herbert Henry Hall, George Hall, Jane (Hall) Cadd, Susan Emily (Hall) Brodie, and Margaret (Hall) Cadd. She married Thomas Ridgway, and had children Evelyn Jane (Ridgway) Gordon, Stella (Ridgway) Collins, Herbert Ridgway, Alexander Ridgway, Ernest Ridgway, and Ada (Ridgway) Cowell. Sarah Ridgway died at age 82 years old on August 31, 1950, and was buried at Cranbourne Cemetery in Cranbourne, City of Casey County, VIC Australia.

RIDGWAY. - On August 31, at the home of her son ( Mr. Alex Ridgway ), Sarah, the dearly loved wife of the late Thomas Ridgway, of Bullarto road, Clyde, and loving mother of Herbert, Alex, Eva ( Mrs. Gordon ), Stella ( Mrs. Collins), Ada ( Mrs. Cowell ), and Tom. Aged 83 years. - Mother and father reunited.

In 1867, in the year that Sarah (Hall) Ridgway was born, on March 1st, Nebraska became the 37th state in the United States. Due to the Homestead Act, settlers had flooded into the area and the first wave of settlers was so large that Nebraska was immediately able to apply for statehood.

In 1888, she was 21 years old when on January 12th, the 'Schoolhouse Blizzard' blanketed Dakota Territory. Montana, Minnesota, Nebraska, Kansas, and Texas were hit, leaving 235 dead. Many of those who perished were children on their way home from school. The day was relatively warm when it began and the blizzard hit unexpectedly, catching most by surprise.
