Add Memories, Stories & Photos about Saverio

He was my grandpa and my hero!
First cousin to Joseph DiBenedetto (who passed on at an early age due to an accident), Saverio stepped in to care for Joseph's family. He was one of the warmest, most loving and funniest people ever. A true American patriot who served and loved this country, even though he was born in Italy.

I spent many of my early years with my grandparents, and grandpa Saverio taught me much about gardening and repairing things that needed fixing around the house.

On Saturdays, he'd walk me across the street to our Uncle Lenny's house and I'd sit between them having to watch war documentaries while grandpa smoked a pipe with Cherry Tobacco and uncle Lenny smoked a cigar. To this day I won't smoke anything!

Saverio never mastered the English language, and it was so amusing to watch him and grandma try to communicate when he'd be so stubborn and refuse to say a word or phrase in Italian so grandma could figure out what he was asking for.

It is because of my grandpa that I became a jeweler, and am able to fix just about anything! I will always admire him for his love and devotion to grandma Millie, and his ability to make everyone around him smile, even during difficult times. I love him and miss him so much.
