  • Obituary

Sebron Jones was born and raised in Augusta, GA on June 3, 1923; the second of eight children born of Cleveland and Rebecca Jones, both preceded him in death. He was named after his grandfather, the Reverend Seabron Jones, a traveling preacher, whom he often had the pleasure of driving to various church meetings. He confessed his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized by Reverend George C. Williams, Pastor of Galilee Baptist Church in Augusta, GA. He attended and received his high school education at Walker Baptist Institute in Augusta, GA where he excelled in his studies. Determined to build a better life for himself and help support his mother and younger siblings, he moved to Chicago, IL and enlisted into the United State Marine Corp on April 8, 1943. He served in the South Pacific during World War II. He was an Expert Rifleman when he received his Honorable Discharge on January 21, 1946. After his military career, he moved to Chicago and soon met and married the love of his life, Marion Marcella McClain on August 16, 1953. They have been married for 59 years. To this union four children ere born, Sharon, Donna, Kimberly and Marsha; and one step-son he raised Nathaniel (Sonny) Caldwell, ho preceded him in death. Sebron worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a postal clerk for 42 years until he retired in 1992. His first church membership in Chicago was the New Friendship M.B. Church, under the late Rev. Stroy Freeman. He later joined Living Hope M.B. Church under Rev. James F. Jordan, here he faithfully served as their first trustee and taught Sunday School. His final church home was First Corinthians Baptist Church, where he served under leadership of Bishop Claude E. Tears until he became home bound. He loved singing in the men's choir. Two of his favorite songs were "When I've Gone"Because He Lives I Can Face Tomorrow." Often called "Buddy" or "Uncle Buddy" by his family, he was a man of unforgettable sayings and colorful stories that would always make you laugh. He was a good husband, and loving father to his children and grandchildren. He will greatly be missed but lovingly remembered by all of us. On Sunday, January 29, 2012, at 9:20a.m., the Lord called him home to rest. He leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved wife Marion Jones; loving daughters, Sharon Richardson (William), Donna Harris (Jerry), Kimberly Andrews (Darrow), and Marsha Terrell; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren; two brothers, Rosco Jones of Boston, Massachusetts, Arthur Lee Jones of Augusta Georgia; two sisters, Rachel Jones of Chicago, Illinois and Alberta Blackmond of Augusta, Georgia; and a host of special nieces, nephews and friends. Two sisters, Rosa Mae Blanche of Chicago and Irene Jones of Augusta, Georgia; and one brother Sidney of Pensacola, Florida preceded him in death.
