He married Lavone G Walker Turnipseed, and had children Cedric M Turnipseed, Darrell Levin Turnipseed (Usa Army), and Silas Turnipseed Jr.. Silas Turnipseed died at age 74 years old on May 16, 2009 in Memphis, and was buried at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery
