STANTON Stanley N. Jones passed away on Tuesday, May 19, in Midland, Texas. Stan was born in Huntley, Neb., on Oct. 7, 1929, as the second son of William Morton and Edna Belle (Arehart) Jones. Stan and his six siblings grew up in Harlan County, Neb., where Stan graduated from Alma H.S. While at Alma, he starred in football for the Cardinals and was quarterback on the undefeated Alma team of 1947. After his graduation in 1948, Stan enlisted in the United States Air Force and served honorably until his discharge in 1954. He served overseas during the Korean War. Stan then began a career in the pipeline industry that took him around the country and around the world. His stops included Nigeria, Columbia, Bolivia and three trips to Alaska to help build the Trans Alaska pipeline. Stan married Joan Jungmeyer Jones in 1956 and lived in Omaha, Neb., until 1985. Stan was a beloved father, active in his church, was an avid outdoorsman and loved coaching youth football. Stan was a diehard Nebraska football fan and attended many Cornhusker games. Stan moved to Odessa, Texas, in 1985 where he retired in 1992. In 1993, he married Billye DeVore and lived in Odessa until his death on Tuesday, May 19. Stan loved West Texas life and was surrounded by a caring family. He continued to work as a Pipeline Inspector for Local Union 798 until 2008. Stan is survived by his wife, Billye Jones; and her four adult children, Ron, Phil and Wayne DeVore, and B.J. Golden and their spouses and families. His also survived by his three adult children, Steve, Jennifer and Jim and their families. Stan was preceded in death by an infant son, Daniel. Funeral services are set for 4:00 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2009, at Stanton Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Richardson officiating. Published in Odessa American on May 22, 2009
