I was with my cousin in a bar (I was underage also) lol! I was 18 going on 19. The year was 1981. I didn't want to go but she said hey, let's go have some fun. She was my "partner in crime" being ten years older. Steve was a table over, sitting there with his friends from work. He walks over and talks to us. He seemed to talk more to my cousin. Well, at any rate she went home and I took off with him. That's how it all started. Steve found out he had melanoma from a tumor on his back. He had it taken care of and this was before we were married. We got married in September of 1981. To describe Steve I would have to say he was my prince, my knight in shining armor. He was my lover, my best friend, my everything. He was funny, he was quirky. He was so full of life. He loved life. He was shy but when you got him to open up he really was fun. He really loved me. The cancer returned with a vengeance. We sought the best oncologists at Mayo Clinic. They said go home. Enjoy your time together. Then we went to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Chicago, IL. This was the last resort. I made friends all up and down that hospital. By now the cancer had spread and filled Steve's lungs. I got a call that he had passed on. I remember hanging onto the doctor and sobbing, more like wailing. I went in the room and gave Steve one last kiss. I told him you are free now baby. I love you and will miss you terribly.
