On September 15, 1942, Stephen Thomas Komarek enlisted in the military at Fort Jay Governors Island in New York. He joined the Branch Immaterial - Warrant Officers in the United States Army as a Private, under the Selectees (Enlisted Men) component. He married Marie Komarek on August 11, 1946 in New York City and was father to three children including a son named Stephen Francis Komarek (1947-2009).
