Sterling Peter Bonanno of Waterford, New London County, CT was born on April 17, 1925. He was married to Nancy Joan (Pedro) Bonanno on April 21, 1951, and they were together until Nancy's death on March 7, 1988. He had children Donald Thomas Bonanno and Lisa Ann Bonanno. Sterling Bonanno died at age 85 years old on June 29, 2010.

  • Introduction

    Waterford - Sterling Peter Bonanno, 85, of Waterford, entered eternal life on June 29, 2010, in the company of his loving children. He was born April 17, 1925, in New London, the son of the late Thomas P. and Lena (Epolito) Bonanno. He attended local schools and graduated from the former Chapmen Technical High School and was active on the High School Alumni Association. He was united in marriage to the former Nancy Pedro on April 21, 1951, in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, Mrs. Bonanno died March 7, 1988. Sterling was employed as a senior material planner for General Dynamics for 45 years retiring in 1988. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, a former member of the New London Lodge of Elks and was very active in Widowed Persons Service of New London County. He enjoyed tending to his garden and growing flowers in his yard. He is survived by his companion, Barbara Smith of East Lyme; his three children, Donald Bonanno and his wife, Robin, of Waterford, Susan and Lisa Bonanno, both of Bozrah; two grandchildren, Christopher and Danyelle Bonanno; and two siblings, Mary Thomas of Nevada and Thomas Bonanno of Waterford. He was predeceased by four siblings, Paul Bonanno, Salvatore Bonnano, Pauline Dinoto, and Catherine Stadnick. Guests are asked to gather for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. on Saturday in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 63 Old Norwich Rd., Quaker Hill, CT 06375. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. The Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London has been entrusted with funeral services. Published by The Day on Jul. 1, 2010.
