Steven A. Wentz, 46, Fennimore, died on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012 at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. The funeral service will be held on Friday, Dec. 28 at 10 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Lancaster with Pastor David Froemming officiating. Burial will be in Beetown Cemetery, Beetown. Family and friends may call on Thursday, Dec. 27 from 4 until 7 p.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home and on Friday from 9 a.m. until time of service at the church. He is the child of Carol Lee (Shaben) Wentz and Edward Alvin Wentz, with siblings Nancy, Rodney, Kenneth, Brenda, Albert, and Alvin.

In 1965, in the year that Steven Alan Wentz was born, on March 8th, the first US combat troops arrived in Vietnam. The 3500 Marines joined 23,000 "advisors" already in South Vietnam. By the end of the year, 190,000 American soldiers were in the country.

In 1970, at the age of just 5 years old, Steven was alive when on May 4th, four students at Kent State University in Ohio were shot and killed by National Guardsmen. The students were at a peaceful demonstration protesting the invasion of Cambodia by US forces. There had been precedent for the killing of American college students. The previous year, on May 15th, Alameda County Sheriffs used shotguns against U.C. Berkeley students at a protest for People's Park. One student died, one was blinded, 128 were injured.

In 1973, by the time he was merely 8 years old, on August 15th, amidst rising calls for the impeachment of President Richard Nixon, Congress imposed an end to the bombing of Cambodia.

In 1988, by the time he was 23 years old, on December 16th, 1988 the popular film Rain Man was released. Featuring Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise. this film brought attention to autistic savants and was based on the "megasavant" Laurence Kim Peek. The film would later go to win four Oscars including Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Director and Best Actor in a Leading Role.

In 1995, he was 30 years old when on September 3rd, eBay was founded in San Jose California. Beginning as simply a place for Pierre Omidyar's girlfriend (now wife) to share her Pez passion and collection online, the site has become a multibillion-dollar business and operates in 30 countries.
