  • Introduction

    Syble (Jameson) Hopp, born in 1918 Kentucky, was born to John W. Jameson (1886 - 1950) and Euva V. Bradley (1888 - 1951). She was survived by five sisters: Mary, Jo Nell, Jane, Wilma, and Dolly, and five brothers: William, Robert, Le Roy, Walter and John Jameson. She was predeceased by her brother George. Syble married Harley Hopp. She had one step-son, Richard Hopp. A well known teacher of "exceptional" children in the state of Wisconsin, Syble received many honors, including having a school for mentally challenged youth named after her.     Mrs. Harley Hopp Mrs. Harley (Syble) Hopp, 57, Rt 2, De Pere, died Sunday Evening in her home. She was born October 5, 1918 in Greenville Kentucky to the late John and Euva Jameson. Mrs. Hopp initiated a program for the education of r******* citizens in Brown County. She was the principal of Donovan School for 21 years in special education. Mrs. Hopp was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Shrine Auxiliary. She served a president this year of the Humanitarian Award Committee, Fort Howard Foundation. Mrs. Hopp was a member of Association for r******* Citizens and was name to the Wisconsin Association for r******* Citizens Hall of Honor in April 1975. She received the JayCee's Citizens Appreciation Award in 1968. Mrs. Hopp was awarded the Roses for the Living Award from the De Pere Rotary Club in 1974. She was "Teacher of the Year" for the state of Wisconsin in 1966 and was one of five finalists in the "National Teachers of the Year". The Syble Hopp School was named after her in 1971. She was a member of the Council for Exceptional Children, and the American Association on Mental Deficiencies. Survivors include her husband; five sisters, mar. Norman (Mary) Wachal, Oconto; Mrs. Fred (Jo Nell) Gumz, Fond du Lac; Mrs. Roger (Jane) Rhyner, Dousman; Mrs. Larry (Wilma) Polzak and Mrs. Gene (Dolly) Gibson, Green Bay; five brothers, William Jameson, Stockton, California; Robert Jameson, Merrill; Le Roy, Walter, and John Jameson, all of Green Bay; one stepson, Richard Hopp, Green Bay; three step-grandchildren; 31 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, George. There will be no visitation. Celebration of the life of Syble Hopp will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, South Madison and Howe Streets, Green Bay. Doctor Lee Moorehead officiating. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the Donovan and Syble Hopp Schools. Donations may be sent to the State Bank of De Pere, made out to Syble Hopp Memorial Fund.
