Sylvester Jesse Seydel was born to Jesse Isaac Seydel (1892 - 1957) and Mary Agnes "Mae" Barry (1892 - 1978). He had siblings Mary Eloise, Eleanor Margaret, Elizabeth "Bettie", and one more (private) sister Seydel. Sylvester enlisted in the United States Army as a private in the Calvary National Guard, on January 13, 1941. He was a veteran of World War II and was discharged in June of 1945. Sylvester Seydel married Phyllis Hazel Duncan (1923 - 1978) on October 31, 1945, and they had a son, Randy Jesse (1959 - 1979) and two daughters.
