Telesforo Perez was born on January 4th, 1912 to Placido Castro Perez (1874 - 1939) and Efren Gonzales Lopez (1885 - 1945). He had thirteen siblings: Pedro, born 1903; Ohamia, born 1905; Rafaela, born 1909; Fred, born 1910; Federico, born 1913; Charlie, born 1914; Rufino, born 1916; Aberardo, born 1917; Ernest, born 1918; Elio, born 1922; Anastacio, born 1923; Eulogia, born 1924; Jesus, born 1927; and another brother. Telesforo married and they had one son, Benigno Perez (1943 - 2020), and three daughters, including Eulogia, who died in 2020. Telesforo died on February 27th, 1991 in Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas at the age of 79. He is buried in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park in Woodrow, Lubbock County, Texas.

In 1912, in the year that Telesforo Perez was born, the RMS Titanic sank in April. The RMS Titanic was a British built and run passenger liner that was billed as "unsinkable." On its maiden voyage from Southampton England to New York City, carrying about 2,224 passengers and crew - from the wealthiest people in the world to poor emigrants from Europe, the Titanic hit an iceberg. Five of her watertight compartments failed but she was designed to survive only 4 being flooded. She began to sink. There were only enough lifeboats for about half of the passengers so over 1,000 remained behind while "women and children first" were loaded. Over 1500 died, making it the largest maritime disaster in modern history.
