  • Introduction

Theodore O. Hudspith (Ted), was my grandfather!!! He was a very tall, handsome, nice man. I loved my grandpa very much! When I was young (child), every time he and my grandma Barbara Ruth Hudspith would come to visit us (my family), he would always give me a few dollars and we would go to the store and buy ice cream. We would drive back to the house and sit together eating his favorite ice cream bars. I remember he had a very distinct smell to him that no one else I've ever encountered has. He oiled his hair and combed it over with a part. I remember him always coming in from working in the yard outside and he would sit back in his recliner chair, take his socks off and their dog "Ginger" (dachshund) would lick his feet (between his toes) for hours.. He told me that she liked his salty feet!!! I remember seeing my first set of "false teeth" because he would always soak his teeth every night before going to bed and he would leave them in a glass on the bathroom sink! He would do just about anything for me and anything I asked of him. Always a very gentle, funny, intelligent and kind man. My grandma loved him very much! He wasn't my moms biological father but they still had a very good relationship. Ted and my grandma were married after my mother had already finished high school and had moved out of their house. I have very many found memories of my grandpa, of which I will never forget. I wasn't there when he passed away and was unable to attend his funeral. To this day, I sometimes think about that and it makes me sad that I was unable to go. He and my grandmother lived in Winter Park, Florida but she had him buried up in Iowa, where all of his family is buried and I believe that was where he was born and raised as well. I have not made it up to his burial site but I will get there one day and have a nice long talk to him.
