Theodore Berquam 1892 - 1983

Theodore Berquam was born on January 26, 1892 in North Dakota United States to Emma Katarina Leverin and Olai Botolf Berquam, and had siblings Gilbert Berquam, Victor Berquam, Viola Marie Berquam, Edward Berquam, Edith Helena Berquam, Lilly Dorothea Berquam, Eugene Douglas Berquam, Curtis Berquam, Ralph Bernhard Berquam, Cora Irene Berquam, and Stanley Thomas Berquam. He married Hazel Rozella Weaver in 1920, and died at age 91 years old on February 13, 1983. Theodore Berquam was buried at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery Section W Site 1511 7601 34th Avenue, South, in Minneapolis, Mn.

In 1892, in the year that Theodore Berquam was born, on January 1st, Ellis Island opened to process immigrants. 700 passed through on the first day - in the first year, 450,000 were processed. The processing center was originally a 3 story wooden building - with outbuildings - that burned down a few years later.

In 1922, at the age of 30 years old, Theodore was alive when the Lincoln Memorial was dedicated in Washington, D.C. on May 30th. More than 35,000 people attended the dedication including Lincoln's son, Robert Todd Lincoln, and many Union and Confederate veterans - although the audience was segregated. The Memorial took 10 years to complete.
