1840 mercantile agent (Redruth marriage); 1841 [under] writer (census); 1840's Auckland police census draper - also freemason (Lodge Master); later hotel owner - bankrupt in 1867; applied for job with provincial govt 1875, but they were abolished in 1876; after wife's 1888 death in Parnell, Auckland he lived with his son, collected the first old age weekly pension of 10/- / week from 1898 and lived with in Tuakau looking after the grandchildren until his death aged almost 99, in July 1909 of senile decay.
